Accreditation

BS EN 1090-1, Execution Class 2

Mega Steels fabricates structural steel to EXC2, the execution class specified for the majority of general building structures, under a controlled, audited process, for projects across London and the South East.

What EXC2 gives your project

Execution Class 2 is the standard for the everyday commercial steel that makes up most building structures. Certification means the welding qualifications, material traceability, inspection and Factory Production Control for the class are independently audited, so your steelwork arrives right, fits on site and carries the documentation your building control and client expect. The steelwork is CE marked to BS EN 1090-1:2009+A1:2011 under an independently assessed Factory Production Control certificate, covering load-bearing welded structural steel components up to Execution Class 2.

What is BS EN 1090?
BS EN 1090 is the European standard for the execution (fabrication and erection) of structural steel and aluminium. EN 1090-1 covers conformity assessment and CE/UKCA marking; EN 1090-2 sets the technical requirements for steel. Structural steelwork supplied for UK construction must be fabricated under it.
What do the Execution Classes EXC1 to EXC4 mean?
Execution Classes set how rigorously steelwork is fabricated and inspected, based on consequence of failure, the type of loading and the risk category. EXC1 is the lowest and EXC4 the highest. EXC2 is the class for the majority of general building structures; EXC3 covers higher-consequence work such as most multi-storey and public buildings; EXC4 is for structures where failure has extreme consequences.
What does EXC2 cover?
EXC2 is the execution class specified for most general building structures, the everyday commercial steelwork found across offices, light industrial, retail and many residential schemes. Being certified to EXC2 means the welding qualifications, material traceability, inspection and Factory Production Control for that class are independently audited and in place.
Does Mega Steels hold EN 1090-1 EXC2?
Yes. Mega Steels fabricates to BS EN 1090-1:2009+A1:2011, Execution Class 2, under an independently assessed Factory Production Control (FPC) certificate, and the steelwork is CE marked. We work to it for commercial projects across London and the South East. If your project specifies a different class, tell us with your enquiry and we'll confirm against it.
